On August 20-21, Carey Bidtnes, Human Resource and Labour Market Specialist attended the Queen’s International Institute on Social Policy (QIISP) Conference in Kingston. The conference, which focused on Skills Development and At-Risk Populations in the 21st Century, discussed the need to develop an integrated understanding of the role of a skills agenda in order to achieve both economic and social sustainability.

KEDCO is participating in a focus group for the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC) which is preparing a regional Economic Development Strategy for Eastern Ontario. The EOWC is creating a foundational document that will inform and advise key stakeholders on priorities for economic development across the region, and stress the importance of an interdisciplinary and regional approach to addressing challenges and opportunities. Tourism

Tourism Kingston is proud to release the 2013-2014 Educational Opportunities in Kingston handbook for teachers and educational tour groups which outlines destinations for field trips and learning experiences within Kingston and the surrounding area.

Ranging from Grade one to Grade twelve, the learning opportunities encompass a wide variety of subjects and strands with curriculum connections. Educational tour travel is a growing niche sector which presents Kingston with a unique opportunity to showcase museums, historic sites, galleries and theatres in the area. Connie Markle, Manager of Conferences and Travel Trade will distribute the 2013-2014 Educational Opportunities in Kingston handbook to local schools as well as school districts and educational tour operators in Ottawa, Northern Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area. Tourism Kingston hosted over 30 professional meeting planners from the Greater Toronto Area to a welcome reception on August 14 in Toronto. Rob Carnegie, Director of Tourism Marketing and Development, Connie Markle, Manager of Conferences and Chris Whyman, Visitor Services Manager introduced Kingston as a destination for meetings, conferences and special events.
