Business Development

The Kingston Economic Development Corporation is proud to announce the release of Perspective Kingston 2013.

Over 325,000 copies of Perspective Kingston were printed and distributed through the Globe and Mail and Canada Post. This year’s edition focused on Kingston as a smart city and a smart choice for businesses and people.

Carey Bidtnes, Human Resources and Labour Market Specialist pulled a snapshot of data from October 1, 2012 through to May 11, 2013 showing that 956 full time jobs were posted on online job boards in Kingston. The data shows that just under 400 jobs were posted in this time frame in the education and health care sectors.

Tourism

Tourism Kingston is proud to support CBC Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! 4-on-4 Street Hockey Tournament which will take place on June 28-30.

Kingston is one of three new host cities selected for the 2013 season. The tournament is anticipated to bring up to 100 teams to Kingston to play at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMCC) Parade Square. Tourism Kingston, CFB Kingston and the Royal Military College of Canada played a significant role in securing this exciting new event for Kingston.

KEDCO Board and staff would like to welcome Youko Leclerc-Desjardins to the position of Assistant Manager, Visitor Services.

Youko will work at the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) at 209 Ontario Street to assist with the daily operations of the VIC and as an ambassador for the city of Kingston. Youko returns to the Tourism Kingston team after gaining work experience in the tourism industry and in planning and project management.

Corporate

On June 26, the KEDCO Board of Directors received a presentation on population, housing and employment projections by Meridian Planning Consultants, commissioned by the City of Kingston.

The presentation gave projections which extend to the year 2041 and will assist with decisions on how to plan for demographic, housing and employment changes.

The KEDCO Board members were asked for their thoughts on the draft projections and their impacts on the city and area.
