Kingston Synchronizing Waste Collection Schedule Beginning July 8

Beginning Monday, July 8, the City of Kingston will be scheduling its waste collection so that every residential home will have all their Green Bin, garbage and recycling picked up on the same day each week.

“It’s so much more convenient to have to plan for only one collection day a week. This is really going to make things easier for a number of residents,” said the Manager of Solid Waste, John Giles.

Giles also pointed out that some residents will not be affected at all, but for those who will see changes, he hopes the advantages of going to single-day pick-up will compensate for the initial readjustment for the new schedule.

Residents should have already received a notice in the mail that explains how this change may affect their neighbourhood. If not, then details about the change can be found online at CityofKingston.ca/collection.

As the new schedule gets implemented, there will be some areas of the city that will have the same colour of recycling box picked up two weeks in a row on the weeks of July 1 and July 8. Beginning the week of July 15, collection will once again alternate between Blue and Grey recycling box weeks.

Kingstonians can sign-up online to be reminded by phone, email or text message what recyclables to put out and on what days.

These City collection reminders will also announce any upcoming changes in collection, tell you if it’s Blue Box or Grey Box week in your neighbourhood, and any weeks when you are permitted to put out two untagged garbage bags.

For anyone who doesn’t have a computer, smartphone or tablet to sign up for those collection reminders, the you can call and get information from Customer Service at 613-546-0000

The City also reminded citizens to have all collectibles at the curb by 6 a.m. on their pick-up day.
