Kingston Musicians Sought for ‘YGK Music’ Pilot Project

A new local music pilot project, YGK Music, is seeking submissions from local musicians, groups and organizations to have their music featured on a special playlist.

This pilot project is being launched by the City of Kingston in partnership with Kingston Accommodation Partners (KAP) to showcase and promote local talent through curated playlists. The playlist will be made available on the City of Kingston website, the Visit Kingston music website, and in various City properties.

According to the City, the inaugural YGK Music playlists will highlight two streams – Traditional, which includes classical, jazz, blues, folk and world music; and Contemporary, including rock, pop, dance, electronic, hip-hop and indie music.

“YGK Music is all about celebrating, encouraging and promoting local artists, with a particular focus on emerging talent. Kingston has always been known as a music city and this pilot project will proudly feature different kinds of music to be made accessible to residents and visitors alike in a new way,” said Danika Lochhead, manager, arts and sector development, in a release.

A peer assessment committee, consisting of members with music expertise in Kingston, will evaluate the submissions.  Artists chosen to be included on the playlist will be required to sign a Licensing Agreement with the City of Kingston and will receive an honourarium of $100.00, which allows for the use of the full clip of the artist’s song for up to 12 months.

More information, including an application form, can be found at CityofKingston.ca/YGKMusic. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 26, 2019 by 11:59pm EST.
