In what could be a considered an “Only in Canada” crime, Kingston Police report the siren song of a cold beer resulted in a local man being arrested for a home break-in last night.

According to a release, on November 30th at around 11:15 pm, two tenants of a 500-block Albert Street apartment were woken up by some noise.

The occupants initially thought the noise was caused by a returning roommate or from a nearby apartment. However, two unknown men had actually discovered the apartment and house door unlocked and entered to steal an Xbox game console, controllers, and a case of beer.

Eventually the tenants grew suspicious of the noise and investigated to see a man running from their porch and down the street.

Looking around the apartment further, the roommates discovered another man sitting downstairs on their couch, drinking a cold beer he’d stolen from their refrigerator.

Kingston Police were contacted and uniform patrol officers attended immediately to arrest the individual – who appeared to already be under the influence of alcohol or drugs – for breaking and entering. He was transported to police headquarters and held overnight to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The lone beer being consumed by the man was seized as evidence.

The second suspect is still being sought and the gaming console and case of beer has not yet been recovered.

At the time of the incident, this man was wearing a backwards black & red ball cap and black coat. He was carrying a neon green backpack and a large Costco tote bag, which the Xbox and case of beer are believed to have been in.
