Ontario Creates Announces Finalists for 2024 Trillium Book Awards

This past week, Ontario Creates announced the finalists for the 2024 Trillium Book Awards, Ontario’s foremost literary accolade recognizing excellence and diversity among the province’s writers.

The Trillium Book Award/Prix Trillium, awarded to both English and French-language authors, seeks to raise public awareness of the high quality of Ontario’s literary talents. The winners will be revealed during an award ceremony on June 20, 2024. A list of past winners is available online.

Among the nominees is Britta Badour, an award-winning artist, public speaker and Kingston raised writer, who is nominated for the 2024 Trillium Book Award for Poetry.

The awards are divided into three categories: Trillium Book Award (English), Prix Trillium (French), and Trillium Book Award for Poetry (English).

The English-language finalists for the Trillium Book Award are:

  • Mike Barnes, for “Sleep is Now a Foreign Country: Encounters with the Uncanny,” published by Biblioasis.
  • Nina Dunic, for “The Clarion,” published by Invisible Publishing.
  • D.A. Lockhart, for “North of Middle Island,” published by Kegedonce Press.
  • Kathryn Mockler, for “Anecdotes,” published by Book*hug Press.
  • Zalika Reid-Benta, for “River Mumma,” published by Penguin Canada / Penguin Random House Canada.

The French-language finalists for the Trillium Book Award are:

  • Martin Bélanger, for “La fin de nos programmes,” published by Del Busso éditeur.
  • Andrée Christensen, for “Plonge, Freya, vole!,” published by Les Éditions David.
  • David Ménard, for “L’aurore martyrise l’enfant,” published by Éditions L’Interligne.
  • Paul Ruban, for “Le parfum de la baleine,” published by Flammarion Québec.
  • Nicolas Weinberg, for “Vivre ou presque,” published by Éditions L’Interligne.

The finalists for the Trillium Book Award for Poetry in English are:

  • Britta Badour, for “Wires that Sputter,” published by McClelland & Stewart / Penguin Random House Canada.
  • Catriona Wright, for “Continuity Errors,” published by Coach House Books.
  • Light Zachary, for “More Sure,” published by Arsenal Pulp Press.
