The 2024 Climate Change Symposium, organized by the City and Sustainable Kingston, is set to illuminate discussions on local biodiversity and herald the emergence of a new green age. The event, scheduled for Monday, Jan. 29, promises to be a catalyst for sparking community-driven climate projects and fostering local connections.

“This signature event is all about sparking action, showcasing the latest progress in community-driven climate projects and enhancing our local community connections,” stated Geoff Hendry, Chief Operating Officer at Sustainable Kingston. Attendees can look forward to talks focusing on biodiversity, technology, and collaborative efforts for a resilient future.

The symposium will feature a virtual keynote address by Bob McDonald, a distinguished Canadian science journalist and host of “Quirks & Quarks.” McDonald will guide the audience through a journey of present and future technologies, offering optimism and hope for the new green age.

Ewa Jackson, Managing Director at ICLEI Canada and a renowned expert in local climate adaptation and resilience, is set to deliver a compelling presentation on effective climate communication. Jackson’s talk will delve into the nuances of engaging diverse audiences on climate change topics.

Furthermore, the symposium will include a panel discussion on biodiversity, featuring experts Holly Evans from Cataraqui Conservation, Maureen Buchanan from All Our Relations Land Trust, and Shannon Lem from Frontenac Arc Biosphere. The panel will discuss watershed health, Indigenous-led conservation, and community engagement, offering valuable insights into climate resilience strategies.

“Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the conversation shaping our collective journey towards a greener and more sustainable world,” emphasized Geoff Hendry.

For the first time in three years, the event will be held at Kingston Grand Theatre, with a livestream option available on the City of Kingston YouTube channel, requiring no registration.

Tickets for the in-person event are available at KingstonGrand.ca, priced at $20 for general admission and $15 for students. Kingston Transit is providing complimentary transit to and from the venue for ticket holders.
