Now that the snow has melted, many residents are discovering ice-storm damage they wish to clear from their yards.
The City reminds residents that yard waste may be dropped-off free at these locations all year long:
– The Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC), 196 Lappan’s Lane, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
– Norterra Organics, 2069 Joyceville Rd. is a convenient drop-off location for yard waste. Contact Norterra Organics at 613-546-0884 for their hours of operation.
For more on yard waste and backyard composting visit CityofKingston.ca/yardwaste.
The City is offering free tours of the Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC) from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday, April 12 at 196 Lappan’s Lane.
The tour gives visitors a behind-the-scenes look at how recyclables are sorted and prepared for market and explains why residents are asked to sort recyclables, what happens to them after they leave the facility, and what they become.
Free BPI-certified compostable liner bags will be given out at this spring’s KARC tours to celebrate that they can now be accepted in the Green Bin.
The free KARC tours are a great way for the whole family to learn about the benefits of waste diversion in anticipation of Earth Day on April 22 and Giveaway Day on Saturday, April 26.
Giveaway Day is the day you put out reusable items you no longer want for your neighbours who might like them. Like recycling and composting, Giveaway Days are another way to divert waste from landfill.
