Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington issued the following release, outlining some of the ways our community’s donations have helped local families and children in the region:

Since Dec. 25, the Tree of Hope has reunited a family, bought a prom dress and helped a family in a time of grief.

Holiday Campaign spent $8,000 in the first three months of 2019 helping KFL&A kids

The Tree of Hope holiday appeal has kept on giving to KFL&A kids since December 25th. The more than 100-year-old campaign by Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington spent nearly $8,000 in the first three months of 2019 to help kids.

The 2018 Campaign hit an all-time record in December, raising more than $60,000 and helping 850 kids with toys, clothing and more. Thanks to the generosity of more than 400 donors the Tree of Hope has been able to support more kids into the new year.

The Tree of Hope helped a father to buy $1,000 in clothes and other necessary children’s expenses to help reunite his family. It also helped purchase a prom dress for a girl expecting to graduate high school. She wouldn’t have been able to go to the prom without a new dress.

The campaign also helped a boy with behavior issues do the thing he loves the most and that keeps him centred – music. It paid for guitar lessons. The fund also supported sports and recreation programs, March Break Camp, clothing purchases, new cribs for babies and more.

One request for help came from a family that had a one-year old pass away from natural causes in late December. The Tree of Hope helped pay for funeral costs.

The Tree of Hope expects to spend more money in July sending the same kids it helped in December to Summer Camps across Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington. Family and Children’s Services Summer Camp program is expected to fund a record number of kids this year, thanks in part to the Tree of Hope.
