Kingston Kids Urged to “Push the Button!” to Test Smoke Alarms

Published on: 2013/02/27 - in Releases

Kingston Fire & Rescue is encouraging Kingston kids to participate in a TVOKids campaign to test smoke alarms.  TVOKids’ “Push the Button!” campaign urges families to test all their home smoke alarms by March 10.

Kids should push the smoke alarm button for 10 seconds.  If the alarm doesn’t sound, it’s time to replace the batteries or the alarm.

Once you’ve tested your smoke alarms, go to http://www.tvokids.com/features/pushbutton and enter the number of detectors you have checked on the “Push the Button” counter!

DROP OFF OLD BATTERIES

If you need to replace your batteries, drop off the old ones for proper disposal at one of these locations (links to maps):

City Hall, 216 Ontario St.; the INVISTA Centre, 1350 Gardiners Rd.; Rideaucrest Home, 175 Rideau St.; Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, 53 Yonge St.; or the Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC) at 196 Lappan’s Lane.

Kingston Fire & Rescue, TVOKids and the Office of the Fire Marshal thank you for your participation in this exciting campaign – click here for more information from the Ontario Government.
