RELEASE — The RMC Paladins varsity manager, Guy Dubé (Sudbury, Ont.), will be heading to Naples, Italy in July as a member of the Canadian delegation to the 30th FISU Summer Games. While staff members were announced by U SPORTS on Wednesday, athlete selection will take place at a later date.
On the 28-person staff, Dubé will be filling the Sports Services role, which is responsible for working with team managers and coaches from 13 different sports to ensure that all technical needs of their respective sports are met.
“Being selected to the Summer Universiade Mission Staff is an amazing opportunity,” Dubé said. “I am very much looking forward to taking part in this incredible international experience.”
After earning an Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Sports Administration from Laurentian University, Dubé was hired as the varsity manager at RMC in 2000. During his tenure, Dubé has long-served on the OUA Sport Committee, and is currently a member of the U SPORTS Sport Committee as well as the Chair of the Men’s Soccer Sport Technical Sub-Committee.
While Naples will be his first University Games experience, Dubé has previous experience at international, multi-sport events. In 2003, Dubé volunteered at the 3rd World Military Summer Games in Catania, Italy, which featured 2,800 military personnel from 84 nations competing in different 13 sports.
As the work begins in the lead-up to the Games this summer, Dubé is focused on providing an exceptional experience for the athletes and his fellow delegates.
“My main priority at the Universiade will be to ensure that the needs of all Canadian athletes, coaches and support staff are met so that they can perform at their best while also enjoying this memorable event.”
