RELEASE — October is Canadian Library Month and the Kingston Frontenac Public Library celebrates the valuable role libraries play in Canadians’ lives! Ontario Public Library Week also falls within this month, October 17 to 23, with a theme of “One Card, One Million Possibilities.” KFPL is making it easier than ever to get your card, explore the possibilities, and make the library a valuable part of your own life.
Starting this week, we are launching a campaign highlighting how a library card is the smartest card you’ll ever have in your pocket.
Watch for posters and pop-up banners to start appearing around the city and Frontenac County this month. You will see these displays with QR codes in many places, including on your Kingston Transit commute, while waiting for your appointment at a local hospital, as you arrive for your fitness class at the Invista Centre, and while getting your kids ready for a game at the Picadilly Arena.
The campaign is focused on our easy, simple, online card application. Just enter your name, year of birth, phone, email, and address at register.kfpl.ca. We will email you your card number so you can get started with our digital collections right away.
“Your library card really does open up one million possibilities,” shared Kimberly Sutherland Mills, Director, Service Design and Delivery. “Without even walking through our door you can download one of 100,000 eBooks and eAudiobooks from cloudLibrary, stream one of 30,000 critically acclaimed films and documentaries on Kanopy, take one of 16,000 online courses from LinkedIn Learning, read one of 7,000 magazines and newspapers on PressReader, or learn one of 70 languages with Mango.”
When you have a wait ahead of you, you can spend that time enjoying some music or reading instead of endlessly scrolling. Simply scan the QR code on the poster or display, or type in the online registration URL on your smartphone to get started. Come into any branch within 30 days with your ID and proof of address to make your card permanent.
Already have a library card? This is the perfect time to discover something new at KFPL, and to tell a friend all about us!
