RELEASE — The Ontario Government announced yesterday that it will allow the reopening of certain outdoor recreational amenities, with restrictions in place, effective Saturday, May 22 at 12:01 a.m.
As a result, up to five people will be allowed to gather outdoors, including those not from your household. Individuals must continue to maintain a physical distance of 2 metres from those not in their household.
Over the coming days, additional City outdoor recreational amenities will reopen for safe enjoyment and exercise, including:
- Reopening May 22: tennis courts, pickleball courts, and basketball courts.
- Reopening May 25: soccer fields, baseball diamonds and skate parks.
- Reopening May 26: marinas (seasonal and transient use)
Please note that team sports and recreational classes are not permitted at this time. Non-team use of sports fields and courts that allow you to maintain a 2-metre distance in groups of five or fewer at all times are permitted.
For complete details, please refer to the City’s COVID-19 page. Any person who enters or uses an outdoor recreation amenity must also maintain a 2-metre physical distance from others (excluding members of the same household).
All other public health and workplace safety measures under the provincewide shutdown will remain in effect. For additional details, please refer to the Province of Ontario’s News Release .
Enjoy parks safely
The City recognizes how important time outdoors is for the health and well-being of residents. City parks, including play structures, benches, paths, and trails will remain open for residents to use. As per the Provincial announcement yesterday, it is expected that the City’s splash pads will be permitted to open in Phase 1, in mid-June.

COVID-19 Vaccine clinic at the INVISTA Centre remains open
The COVID-19 Vaccine clinic at the INVISTA Centre remains open for booked appointments. Residents are reminded to park at the south end of the INVISTA Centre and access the clinic through the south entrance. KFL&A Public Health asks residents to not arrive more than 10 minutes before their appointments and to wait in their vehicles or outside (maintain 2 metres of physical distance from others).
