A first-year student has died and another student remains in hospital after falling through a library skylight last night at Duncan McArthur Hall on west campus.
19 year old Habib Khan of Saudi Arabia was pronounced dead in hospital. He was in residence at Brockington House.
18 year old Stephen Nagy of Mississauga is in hospital in stable condition. He lives at Jean Royce Hall.
“Our hearts and prayers are with Habib and Stephen’s families and friends,” says Principal Daniel Woolf. “This is a terrible tragedy.”
Kingston police were called to west campus just after 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night. Officers continue to investigate under the authority of the Regional Coroner’s office.
Counsellors from Queen’s Health, Counselling and Disability Services met with the students’ friends overnight and remain available to provide support.
Associate Vice-Principal and Dean of Student Affairs John Pierce says students are encouraged to call 613-533-6000 ext. 78264 to access services and resources.
“This is already a stressful time of year with exams starting next week,” he says. “We are focusing on ensuring that students have the support they need in this very difficult time.
