Help for Pregnant Women Coming to Napanee

RELEASE — Thousands of young girls and women get pregnant every year, but what do they do if it is an unplanned or stressful pregnancy? Where can they turn for help and support? Who can they talk to about their options? Kingston Pregnancy Care Centre (KPCC) has been serving the KFL&A area for 30 years and now they are coming to Napanee.

According to the 2016 Stats Canada Census, there are over 3,000 young people between the ages of 10 and 29 living in Greater Napanee. It is for those that KPCC exists, to help young women and their partners navigate an unplanned pregnancy.

“It can be hard for young people to access services in Kingston if they can’t drive or they are too afraid to tell their parents,” says Elizabeth Sacrey, Executive Director. “We saw a need to be in Napanee to help those who experience barriers to services because of transportation or family issues. After our strategic planning meeting in June with our board and staff we decided it was time to make this need a priority and expand services to Napanee.”

The Centre will be opening it’s Napanee location on Wednesday, January 8th, 2020. It will be located downstairs in the Downtown Napanee Business Hub at 6 Dundas Street East. The Centre will be open every Wednesday 10am-4pm. The centre will be staffed by paid staff and volunteers from the community.

The Centre exists to empower women and men facing unplanned pregnancies with practical help, emotional support, and information about their pregnancy options. All of the services are free and confidential, which makes them a valuable asset to the Napanee community. The Centre offers pregnancy tests, options counselling, prenatal and parenting classes, mentoring, community referrals and post-abortion support to name a few of the free services provided.

What makes KPCC unique from other clinics or medical offices is that they have no time limits for visits. Whereas most offices book in 20 or 30 minute blocks, women coming to KPCC are never rushed; the time never runs out. A woman is able to stay as long as she needs to get information, explore her feelings and make an informed decision about her pregnancy. This makes the Centre a great resource for doctor’s offices and clinics in the area.
