RELEASE — When the OUA released this year’s award winners in women’s volleyball, Kara Stephan (Barrie, Ont.) of the RMC Paladins was named among the best in the league as an OUA East First Team All-Star.

“It’s great to see Kara’s achievements for the season recognized,” RMC head coach Joely Christian said. “She performed exceptionally well and competed on par with athletes currently on the top four teams in the OUA.”

The fourth-year outside hitter finishes her career at RMC with the most kills (806), aces (131), and points (991) in program history, thanks to a senior year among the top-five in the OUA ranks in points per set (4.2), kills per set (3.55), and digs per set (3.68).

After Stephan was named a First Team All-Star for the second consecutive season, Christian had nothing but praise for the native of Barrie, Ont.

“Kara has accomplished milestones that no previous RMC female volleyball player has been able to achieve,” Christian said. “Having players recognized and placed on the All-Star Team means a lot to our team currently and to the future of our program.”

While she still has a year of eligibility remaining, Stephan is set to begin her military service beyond RMC upon graduation. The computer engineering student will be a noticeable loss for the Paladins program, but the accolades she has earned during her time on the court will benefit the future of RMC volleyball.

“This recognition shows that we are making advancements and developing players that can compete with any institution in the league,” Christian said.
