RELEASE — The City of Kingston, in partnership with the County of Frontenac and Tourism Kingston, presents the end of Open Farms celebrations with an Open Farms Harvest event on Sunday, Oct. 2 from 1 – 4:30 p.m. This ticketed autumn celebration will take place in Memorial Hall, located within Kingston City Hall, and outside in Springer Market Square.
Attendees will have the opportunity to taste, sip, and learn their way through a thoughtfully curated harvest food experience, featuring local chefs coming together to prepare dishes using exclusively local ingredients, brought in by local farmers from rural Kingston and Frontenac County.
At the Open Farms Harvest event, local food tastings will be paired with a wide selection of Ontario wines from Prince Edward County and Niagara wineries, as well as craft beers from some of the finest craft breweries in the greater Kingston area. The celebration will feature live chef demonstrations, sponsored by Stone City Woodworks and curated by Natalie Goldenberg-Fife of Gold & Fife, and the opportunity to learn firsthand from farmers about the food they produce.
The event will bring together Kingston’s rural and urban communities by offering personal testimonies of where our food and drink come from, told by the farmers and producers who grow and prepare our foods, wines, and beer.
“Food prepared with love, attention to detail, and a sense of place has the power to educate people and share where our food is grown,” says Tracey Snow, the City’s Manager of Rural Economic & Community Development. “Moreover, we will deliver a culinary experience that fuses food, music, heritage, and beverage into one offering, with the results and benefits being profoundly meaningful.”
Tickets are $75 plus HST and are now on sale at CityofKingston.ca/PLAY. Each ticket includes a handmade wood serving plate, samples from local chefs creating local food, as well as local beverage offerings, and access to three seminars. Children 10 years and under are free to attend and do not require a ticket.
