New Year’s to Affect City and Utilities Kingston Services

RELEASE — City of Kingston and Utilities Kingston services and facilities will be affected by New Year’s as outlined below.

Christmas and New Year’s Holiday Green Bin, Garbage and Recycling Schedule

There is no collection on Jan. 1. Collection will occur the day after your regularly scheduled collection.
Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC):  The recycling depot and yard waste site is Closed Jan. 1. Real Christmas trees (ornaments and tinsel removed) can be dropped off free-of-charge at KARC, 196 Lappan’s Ln.
Two-Untagged Bag Reminder: Your household can put out two untagged bags or cans of garbage for your first collection day after New Year’s Day (the two-bag collection days are Jan. 2 – 6).
Never Miss Collection Day: Go to CityofKingston.ca/Collection to sign-up to receive collection reminders by phone, push notification or email.
Kingston Transit Schedule 

Plan your bus trip at KingstonTransit.ca/TripPlanner.

    • New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31: Regular Sunday service. FREE TRANSIT DAY.
    • New Year’s Day, Jan. 1: No service.

Queen’s University routes will not run during the holiday break. Route 20 service will be paused Dec. 21 – Jan. 8 and Route 17 service will be paused Dec. 22 – Jan. 8.

Kingston Access Bus Services Schedule

    • New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31: Regular on-road service and hours. Office closes at 4 p.m.
    • New Year’s Day, Jan. 1: No on-road service. Office closed.

Municipal Office/Facilities Schedules

  • Administrative offices, including housing and social services on Montreal Street: Closed Jan. 1.
  • Provincial Offences Court at 362 Montreal St. will be closed on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.
  • Utilities Kingston and Kingston Hydro: Customer service and administration offices will be closed on Jan. 1, and at noon for administration offices on Dec. 29. In the event of a utility emergency, such as a gas smell, power outage, or a watermain break, call the Utilities Kingston 24-hour number at 613-546-1181 (or the electricity or natural gas utility provider for your area). A friendly reminder the lowest electricity prices will be in effect on holidays for customers on the Time-of-Use (TOU) and Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO) price plans. Learn more.
  • Kingston Frontenac Public Library branches: Closed Dec. 31 – Jan. 2.
  • Artillery Park Aquatic Centre: Closed Jan. 1. On Dec. 31 the front desk closes at 2 p.m.
  • INVISTA Centre: On Dec. 31 the facility closes at 2 p.m. and re-opens at 5 p.m. for NYE activities. Closed Jan. 1.
  • Kingston East Community Centre: Closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
  • Rideau Heights Community Centre and Library: Closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Library closed Dec. 31 – Jan. 2.
  • Cataraqui Community Centre and Kingston Memorial Centre: Closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
  • Centre 70: Closed Dec. 29 – Jan. 1.
  • Kingston Grand Theatre Box Office: Open regular hours Dec 27 – 30 inclusive. Closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Tickets and gift certificates are always available online at KingstonGrand.ca.   • PumpHouse Museum: PumpHouse will be closed from Dec. 22 – Jan. 2 and reopening Jan. 3.
  • Market Wing Cultural Space: The Market Wing Cultural Space inside City Hall will be closed Dec. 18 – Jan. 2 and reopens on Jan. 3.
  • Tett Centre: closed to the public from Dec. 24 – Jan. 3 (Check the Tett website for updates).
