City of Kingston Announces Updates to Services

Published on: 2020/04/02 - in Releases

RELEASE — The City is updating several measures that have been put in place as part of its precautions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please take note of the following:

Building and Enforcement Services

Building Officials and Enforcement Officers will not be conducting inspections within an occupied dwelling for Building Permits and Property Standards. This temporary halt to inspections will continue until further notice.

Effective immediately, any cheques for building permit fees must be received in the 1211 John Counter Blvd. deposit box by 4 p.m. on the Wednesday of each week. Cheques deposited after this time will be processed the following week.

Garbage

Households may continue to put out four untagged bags of garbage for collection each week until May 3. Protect your collector! Follow these safe waste-disposal guidelines.

Grand Theatre

The Grand Theatre is currently closed and all scheduled shows have been cancelled or postponed until after May 3. Operations are being reviewed on an ongoing basis. Visit the Grand Theatre website for up-to-date show information.

Kingston Transit

Passengers are asked to continue boarding and exiting buses using the back doors until further notice. Transit riders with accessibility needs can continue to use the front doors for boarding and exiting, but are asked to limit their interactions with bus operators.

Kingston Transit will not be accepting cash fares or paper transfers from passengers boarding at the back of the bus, and passengers will not be required to tap their transit pass at this time.

Bus capacity is limited to 12-15 passengers, depending on the bus model. Please use Kingston Transit for essential trips only.

The City continues to monitor the information released by the provincial Ministry of Health and other public health partners, including KFL&A Public Health.
