The City and the Kingston Family YMCA are offering a variety of Family Day activities for Monday February 20, 2012. (The holiday schedule for municipal services follows the activity listing.)
AT THE INVISTA CENTRE
* FREE Public Skate from 1 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. sponsored by James Braden Ford
* Regular Public Skate 6:30 p.m. to 7:20 p.m.
* Family Day is “Bring a Friend for FREE Day” for Youth Members of the Fitness & Wellness Centre. And it also marks the start of “Bring a Friend Week” – February 20 to 26 – for all members, who may bring a friend for a FREE.
* The Fitness & Wellness Centre will also offer a number of information booths on Family Day, including ones featuring: Family Nutrition, Canadian Diabetes Association, and Trillium College Massage Therapy Students.
AT ARTILLERY PARK AQUATICS AND FITNESS CENTRE
* 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adult and Family Swim
* 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Leisure Swim
* 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Parent & Tot Swim
* 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Drop-in Swim to Survive Lessons
* 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Adult and Family Swim (2 lanes)
* 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Aquafit
FAMILY DAY AT THE YMCA
The YMCA at 100 Wright Crescent is offering a number of City-sponsored Family Day events, including:
* FREE Concert: Trevor Strong of the Arrogant Worms – 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
* Autograph signing with Canadian Olympic Medalist Valerie Hould-Marchand – 1 p.m. to 1:45p.m.
* BBQ in support of YMCA Strong Kids – 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
* Recreational Swimming -10 a.m. to noon and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
* Air Castles and Face Painting – 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. to 3 p.m.
* Arts & Crafts -10 a.m. to noon and 1:15 p.m. to 3 p.m.
MUNICIPAL HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
The Family Day holiday will create some schedule changes to important municipal services:
Administrative Offices: Closed Monday. All administrative offices, including social services and Utilities Kingston are closed on Monday. In the event of a utility emergency, such as a gas smell or a water main break, call the Utilities Kingston 24-hour number at 613-546-1181.
Kingston Transit: Bus service will not operate on Monday. Regular service resumes Tuesday.
Green Bin, garbage and recycling: There is no collection on Monday. Monday’s collection moves to Tuesday, and for the rest of the week, collection occurs the day after the regular pick-up day.
Kingston Area Recycling Centre: Closed.
Provincial Offences Office: Closed.
Arenas: Open.
Libraries: All branches of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library will be closed on Sunday, Feb. 19 and Monday, Feb. 20.
Grand Theatre Box Office: Closed.
Portsmouth Olympic Harbour: Closed.
Oakwood Daycare: Closed.
Wally Elmer Neighbourhood Centre: Closed.
Fitness & Wellness Centre at the INVISTA Centre: Open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. (note reduced hours).
Artillery Park Aquatics Centre: Open from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (note reduced hours).
