HIGHLIGHTS OF RECENT PROGRESS & ACTIVITIES

Business Development

KEDCO was pleased to have co-hosted the Grand Opening of ESG Solutions new facilities at 20 Hyperion Court in the Alcan Business Park on June 10. The expanded facilities, which were funded in part through the Eastern Ontario Development Fund have allowed ESG to grow their operations and staffing numbers. ESG is a world leader in passive seismic monitoring of induced micro-seismic events providing solutions to the petroleum, mining and geotechnical industries. They are the only micro-seismic company that designs, develops and manufactures all of its system components in-house.

Christa Wallbridge, Project Manager – Business Development was in Toronto on June 9 for the Canadian Wind Energy Association’s Windmatters Seminar Series. The seminar focused on Building the Wind Energy Supply Chain in Canada and offered sessions on existing wind market opportunities, qualifications and certifications required of manufacturers and regional initiatives to promote supply and value chain development.

Tourism Kingston

Tourism Kingston and the Kingston Accommodation Partners hosted the launch of the 2010 Summer Leisure Campaign at the Holiday Inn Kingston Waterfront on June 8. Deanna Davies, Executive Director of KAP Inc. presented a summary of this summer’s $630,000.00 campaign which will be in market from June 1 – August 31 in Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal. Kingston is working with over 20 media partners in out of home advertising (transit, bike racks, billboards, digital boards), daily and community newspapers, radio, magazines, online, through contests and media familiarization tours and interviews. Kingston will advertise to the Asian market for the first time with prime Chinese media partners – The Epoch Times and NDTV.

Family Physician Recruitment & Retention

Teri Jones, Family Physician Recruitment & Retention Project Manager has recruited another new family physician as part of the City of Kingston Family Physician Recruitment Support Program. Dr. Marie Bedrossian completed medical school at Queen’s University, and will be beginning her first year of residency at the University of Toronto. Dr. Bedrossian plans to return to Kingston in 2012 to establish her Family Practice and reside closer to family.

Corporate

The KEDCO Board of Directors regular monthly meeting will take place on Monday, June 14 at 5pm in the Innovation Park boardroom. The agenda includes an update from the Long-Term Strategic Planning Committee and review of its composition. Regular meetings are suspended for the summer months of July and August, with a regular schedule of meetings resuming in September.
