Business Development

On January 30, Jeff Garrah, CEO attended the Thales Canada Defense and Security opening ceremony for their new Kingston location at Innovation Park.

Thales Canada Defense and Security is a premier systems integrator and prime contractor of Command, control, communications and computer-based intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance for all forces, force protection, radars and night vision systems.

This new Thales site will allow Thales to expand its support to develop procedures, training packages, simulations and demos and better plan user engagement activities at Canadian Army sites including CFB Kingston. Thales hopes to build relationships with Queen’s University and the Royal Military College of Canada through access to highly qualified graduates and engagement in leading-edge research initiatives.

Thales Canada employs over 1,300 people in Canada.

On January 29 and 31, the Entrepreneur Centre hosted an information session for Novelis Global Technology Centre employees at Innovation Park. The session discussed all aspects of starting a business and opportunities for those interested in self-employment. Carey Bidtnes, Labour Market and Human Resource Specialist joined the group to discuss the local job opportunities and job search strategies that transitioning employees can utilize.

Tourism Kingston

Tourism Kingston is proud to be a community partner of the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. The National Women’s Curling Championship, the largest sport tourism event to have been hosted in Kingston, will take place at the K-Rock Centre from Saturday, February 16 – Sunday, February 24 and is anticipated to generate a $6 million economic impact for the community.

Tourism Kingston has invited several event rights holders to attend the Last Rocks draws on February 23-24 to showcase Kingston as a potential host city for other national level sport events.
