Business Development

The Entrepreneur Centre at KEDCO will host the 2013 Summer Company Program wrap up celebration on August 27 at Old Stones Bar and Grill at the Four Points by Sheraton Kingston. The event will be an opportunity to congratulate all participants on their successes, as well as thank the mentors for their advice and support over the summer. Over half of the 17 student entrepreneurs plan to continue their businesses after the conclusion of the program. KEDCO congratulates all participants and looks forward to working with these new business owners in the years to come.

Tourism

On August 1-5, Tourism Kingston, the Downtown Kingston BIA, the City of Kingston and other community partners presented the World Invitational Town Crier Competition in downtown Kingston. 35 criers from Canada, USA, UK, Austrailia, New Zealand, Belguim and Holland attended the event. Tourism Kingston would like to congratulate Chris Whyman, Town Crier and Tourism Kingston’s Visitor Services Manager on his third place overall win in the competition.

Tourism Kingston is pleased to announce that Kingston has been successful in a bid for the Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) 2014 and 2015 Ontario Cup Provincial Championships. The Kingston Impact Basketball Club has been selected to host two events in both 2014 and 2015 and is expected to bring over 1,000 young athletes and their families to Kingston with an estimated economic impact of over $1 million in direct, indirect and induced spending. The Ontario cup serves as the end-of-year championships for the OBA and its member clubs.

Tourism Kingston is a proud sponsor of the weekend’s Kingston Sheep Dog Trials taking place August 9-11 at Grass Creek Park. The Trials annually attract over 7,000 spectators throughout the three day festival. Among the 2013 attractions will be the craft and artisans fair, sheep shearing, Kingston Police K-9 demonstrations and camel rides. Corporate

On Wednesday, August 7, KEDCO hosted the 4th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at the Garrison Golf and Curling Club at CFB Kingston. Over 120 golfers came out to support this event, with proceeds of over $1,500 raised for the Kingston Military Family Resource Centre. The Kingston Military Family Resource Centre is a registered non-profit, charitable organization that supports and enhances the health and well being of the military community through programs and services.
