KEDCO is pleased to be working with the Lyreco Kingston Distribution Centre on a summer mix and mingle to celebrate Lyreco’s six years in the community. The Lyreco Kingston Distribution Centre, located at 933 Innovation Drive in the St. Lawrence Business Park is a $23 million dollar state-of-the-art facility which was officially opened in July 2007. Lyreco operates three distribution centres across Canada in Kingston, Dartmouth and Calgary.
On July 10, Jeff Garrah, CEO, Donna Gillespie, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications and Jan Dines, Business Development Officer organized the initial meeting for an advisory group for the defence, information communications technology and smart infrastructure sector. The advisory group, comprised of sector specific representatives from the Kingston community, addressed Kingston’s strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for this sector. This information will be used in the development of the KEDCO Strategic Plan 2015-2020.
Tourism Kingston
Tourism Kingston is finalizing the 2013-2014 Educational Opportunities in Kingston handbook for teachers and educational tour groups which outlines destinations for field trips and learning experiences within Kingston and the surrounding area. Ranging from Grade one to Grade twelve, the learning opportunities encompass a wide variety of subjects and strands with curriculum connections. Educational tour travel is a growing niche sector which presents Kingston with a unique opportunity to showcase the more than 20 museums, historic sites, galleries and theatres. Release date is August 2013.
Tourism Kingston is proud to sponsor the CORK North American Laser Championships taking place July 24-28 in Kingston. The event will draw 400 of North America’s top sailors to Kingston and is anticipated to have a resulting economic impact of $1.3M. This championship will take place in addition to CORK’s annual national and international regattas taking place throughout the month of August. For more information please visit http://www.cork.org. Tourism Kingston is proud to announce that Kingston has been successful in a bid for the 2013 Canadian Eastern University Ultimate Championships to Kingston. This will be the third time that Kingston has won the rights to host this event. Tourism Kingston will partner with Queen’s University Ultimate and Ultimate Canada in presenting this tournament which is expected to draw between 450-500 athletes from universities across Ontario and Quebec on September 28-29, 2013.
