The Joe Chitahalen Memorial Musical Instrument Lending Library (Joe’s M.I.L.L) has announced that they are recruiting new volunteers to join the “Joe’s Crew” team.
“We need volunteers who are willing to help us organize and work at special events, manage stages, coordinate workshops, develop initiatives, write grant proposals, or help with the day to day operations of the M.I.L.L.” said Board Member and Volunteer Co-ordinator, Connie Leeman, who is heading up the recruitment drive.“On Canada Day, July 1st, and August 24th & 25th, we’ll be taking part in events at Market Square and City Hall. We’ll have displays, buskers and merchandise for sale, and will need several volunteers to staff the areas” she added.
Members of “Joe’s Crew” will also be working at the Open Voices Community Choir concert under the direction of Andy Rush, on June 2, 2012 at Cookes-Portsmouth United Church with guest artist Peter Katz.
“During each year the M.I.L.L. holds workshops and other fundraising events in conjunction with other organizations. Volunteers are essential if we are to continue our work in the community”added Terry Snider, President of Joe’s M.I.L.L.
Joe’s M.I.L.L. is a unique musical instrument lending library serving the Kingston and areas musical community since May 2000. “In 2012 we loaned out about 2,300 instruments to underprivileged children and area residents. It is the only library of this kind in Canada as far as we know” Snider added.
“We are a registered charity and most of our donations come from private sources. The only paid staff member for the M.I.L.L. is our part-time librarian who runs the library, repairs instruments and keeps track of about 500 instruments. We also need volunteers who are interested in website and social media updates, office administration, instrument maintenance and repair, and light maintenance” Leeman stated.
The Volunteer Registration form is available on the newly designed website where people interested in joining the Joe’s Crew Volunteer Team can apply at www.JoesMill.org or questions can be emailed to her at cleeman@joesmill.org.
Donations can be made on-line via PayPal (using your credit card or PayPal account). Receipts will be issued for a donation of $20.00 or more.
