The Grocery Basket Gets a New Set of Wheels

Published on: 2020/08/01 - in Releases

RELEASE — Kingston’s own The Grocery Basket has added a food truck to the team, which is currently stationed in City Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day.

The truck will also travel along the Napanee-Kingston-Gananoque corridor to join special events and activities where possible.

“We saw an opportunity to add to the amazing places to eat in the greater Kingston area with an option that is fresh, local, and caters to people looking to maintain a healthy diet or looking to indulge their sweet tooth,” said Michelle Pilon with The Grocery Basket.

The menu at the food truck features many local favourites which will be familiar to Grocery Basket regulars, such as:

County Soda Co.
Enright Cattle Co.
Seed to Sausage
Equator Coffee
White Mountain Ice Cream
Wilton Cheese Factory
Creel & Gambrel
Loon Kombucha
Reid’s Dairy
Limestone Creamery
Corner Bakery
Forman Farms
Patchwork Gardens

As Kingston already enjoys several classic chip trucks, The Grocery Basket Food Truck is not equipped with a deep fryer and instead focuses on healthy sandwiches, salads, soups, breakfast eats, ice cream, and baked goods.

“Whatever you eat or drink from The Grocery Basket Food Truck is real, local, and responsible. If you have a passion for real food and where it comes from, keep an eye out for The Grocery Basket food truck coming to an event near you,” adds Pilon.

Planning and approvals for the food truck were started long before COVID-19, and the truck’s menu was designed in alignment with the City of Kingston’s strategic priority aimed at supporting local food production and farm-to-table food. To that end, the menu was reviewed by a City nutritionist who recommended no changes to the menu as planned.

“Congratulations to the Grocery Basket on the launch of their new food truck,” said Craig Desjardins, Director, Strategy, Innovation & Partnerships at the City of Kingston. “Businesses across the City have had to pivot their business models in order to deal with COVID-19 and the impacts on customer demand. Food trucks are an exciting trend in the food services sector and we wish The Grocery Basket every success!”
