RELEASE — The City is updating several measures that have been put in place as part of its precautions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please take note of the following:
Kingston Transit Payment and Passes
Kingston Transit will continue to operate without required fare payment until further notice. The sale of transit passes continues to be suspended online and at all sales outlets. Residents are reminded that Kingston Transit should be used for essential trips only.

Passengers that had an active monthly pass for March or had renewed for subsequent months will have their pass extended by one additional month at no cost once fare payment resumes. Passengers who receive their transit pass through the Employee Transpass Program should discuss reimbursement directly with their employers.
Parking Permits
The City is extending current monthly parking permits through May at no additional cost. Existing permits will be renewed automatically and will be valid through May.
Current parking permit holders will receive an email notice with information about the extension. Online and in-person payment processing for renewals continues to be suspended until further notice.
Those who have already purchased a monthly parking permit for May will receive a one-month extension.
Recreation fitness memberships
Monthly payments for fitness memberships are suspended until further notice. Clients with fitness memberships do not need to contact the City – their PLAY accounts will be automatically adjusted. For clients who pre-paid for their fitness memberships, their accounts will automatically be extending upon reopening to reflect the closure dates.
Solid Waste Services
The City’s Solid Waste Services COVID-19 measures will remain in place until at least May 31. This extends:
- the four-bag weekly garbage limit,
- the request to practice safe-waste disposal guidelines and
- physical-distancing measures at Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC).
Residents are reminded to minimize non-essential trips to KARC and to drop off yard waste at the depot only on their curbside waste collection day. The Household Hazardous Waste facility remains closed. New and replacement Green Bins and recycling boxes are not available at this time. You may use a plastic container with handles (eg. laundry basket) for your recycling if you need to.
