RELEASE — CFRC 101.9 FM Radio Queen’s University is set to launch its 15th Annual Funding Drive on November 1st 2020. Through its fundraising, the world’s longest-running campus-based station aims this year to raise $15,000 to upgrade aging recording equipment and outdated software to provide better quality sound for community listeners. CFRC also seeks to raise money to support the sustained coordination of its local news and multicultural programming to better meet community demand.
COVID-19 has precluded in-person fundraising events, however, the station will host in studio performances and rotating programs with special guests from the community throughout its two-month funding drive ending December 31st. The Shortwave Theatre Festival also launches on CFRC’s airwaves November 1st, a radio theatre project produced in collaboration with local theatre company Cellar Door Project. Legendary local musician Tom Savage’s new act, The Savage Family Band (with his teenage daughter Bella on bass) kicks off the CFRC’s fundraising and radio theatre festivities in a live performance from CFRC’s studios at noon on November 1st.
“We’re really quite excited to kick off this year’s funding drive with the help of talented local artists like the Savage Family Band and the many artists who wrote, directed, performed and produced each of Shortwave Theatre Festival’s radio theatre plays. Showcasing the wealth of talent in our community through innovative and engaging radio events is something CFRC takes pride in. We look forward to sharing even more community talent and voices in our special programming over our airwaves over the next two months of our funding drive” says Dinah Jansen, CFRC Station Manager.
Supporters of independent community radio can donate securely via CFRC’s website. Donors can choose to donate through Go Fund Me and enter for a chance to win a weekly raffle draw for gift certificates and items donated by local businesses.
