Public Invited to Attend Agricultural Land Review

Published on: 2011/01/19 - in Releases

An upcoming open house and information session will offer the public a look at sections of the rural area of the City that are recommended to be re-designated as “rural” and/or “prime agricultural” according to an Agricultural Land Review.

The open house starts at 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27 at the Joyceville Road Fire Hall, 1648 Joyceville Rd. A presentation will be made at 6 p.m.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs requested that Kingston conduct the review as a follow-up measure to the recently approved Official Plan. The review also responds to a petition submitted by 15 of east-end landowners who wish to have their land off Concession 5 considered for designation back to Rural from Prime Agricultural Area.

The City hired Clark Consulting Services to undertake the review and staff and the consultant conducted site visits over the course of the fall. A draft report with recommendations regarding designations will be presented to the public at the open house.
