Published on: 2017/03/16 - in Releases

In partnership with the province, through Ontario150, SESQUI announces its revolutionary immersive cinematic dome tour, with free screenings of the 360° film HORIZON.

The dome will travel to six communities exclusively across Ontario – including Kingston – from June to August, 2017.

The cutting edge cinematic dome will offer audiences of all ages a true 360° immersive experience of the 20-minute film HORIZON, with scenes shot in every province and territory, showcasing Canada’s awe-inspiring landscapes, diversity of perspectives, artistic talents and the people that call Canada home. The film features over 380 on-screen performers and a soundtrack of both original and contemporary Canadian music.

Designed to inspire and captivate, HORIZON is a visually stunning journey through Canada that will amplify the senses, giving audiences a front row seat to the wonders of our country.

Participants will take a ride on an illuminated dragon boat on the Rideau Canal and be enveloped by the spectacular Northern Lights, among 90 other breathtaking scenes.

The Ontario tour stops are anticipated to provide an economic impact of $10.5M. SESQUI is investing more than $7M in small to mid-sized businesses within Ontario’s growing immersive media sector, helping solidify the province’s reputation as an incubator and driver of innovation. Tour stop communities will also have an opportunity to activate outside the dome as a hub for Ontario 150 celebrations.

“We are thrilled to take HORIZON on the road and finally share this film with Canadians,” said Andrea Stewart, SESQUI Executive Producer. “Our cinematic dome provides a unique experience, using 360° technology to put the audience at the centre of the action, as breathtaking and moving scenes unfold around them. We hope that when viewers see the raw beauty of Canada and the talented people who call it home, they will be inspired by the future that is all around us.”

SESQUI is supported by the province of Ontario as part of a line-up of Ontario 150 celebrations taking place across the province in 2017. SESQUI is also a Canada 150 Signature Initiative, supported by the Government of Canada.

“Ontario’s 150th anniversary is an opportunity to come together and celebrate the incredible province we live in. The SESQUI dome experience will bring the magic of Ontario and Canada in a ground-breaking never-before-seen format that will amaze and inspire viewing audiences,” said Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “Ontarians will also have an opportunity to experience hundreds of Ontario150 supported community programs and celebrations highlighting the province’s beauty, talent, culture, innovation and inclusiveness.

The immersive dome tour is just one of many ways that Canadians can experience HORIZON. The film will also be formatted for virtual reality and available through MERIDIAN VR, a free mobile app, launching April 2017. SESQUI has also collaborated with planetariums, science centres, film festivals and annual events across Canada to offer screenings in fixed full-dome facilities and VR installations across Canada.
