Following is a list of road construction projects and events provided by the City of Kingston that are expected to have an impact on traffic flow next week:

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians: review the listing of streets and related messages below for travel information of interest to you.

Please note that the winter parking ban will be in effect as of Jan. 1, 2024. Motorists are advised that overnight on-street parking is not permitted during the months of January and February.

LaSalle Causeway

Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) wishes to advise motorists of an alternating lane closure on LaSalle Causeway for major rehabilitation during the following period:

    • Wednesday, November 1, 2023 to Tuesday, April 30, 2024

During this period, one lane will be closed and one lane will remain open for alternating traffic. Motorists should expect short delays. Access will be maintained for pedestrians and cyclists.

PSPC encourages users to exercise caution when travelling on the bridge and thanks them for their patience.

Road Closures

  • University Avenue – Union to Earl – closed until May 29 for the removal of debris from demolition and concrete deliveries at the Queen’s John Deutsch University Centre project.

Parking Disruption

The Chown Memorial Parking Structure Restoration project is now in the final phase. The work that took place throughout all levels of the building, included efforts such as routine structural maintenance, renewal of waterproofing materials and upgrades to the building mechanical/electrical systems. The work is winding down, is close to completion, and expected to conclude in late February.

The work will be completed in phases to allow the building to remain open to public parking for the duration of the project. Phased work areas will occupy a maximum of 10% of the available parking stalls at a time. Up to 45 spaces will be out of commission.  There is also parking availability at the Hanson Memorial and Robert Bruce Memorial parking garages in the two adjacent blocks to the east.

Pedestrian Impact – Waaban Crossing Bridge – Mid January 2024

The City is performing some pipe maintenance on the underside of the Waaban Crossing.  The maintenance is scheduled to take place on January 16 or January 17 depending on the weather forecast.  The work is expected to take less than 1-day’s time.

The work will not affect vehicle traffic and will have minimal impact on pedestrians.

The work will be performed from a bucket truck that will be parked on the Waaban’s multi-use pathway near the east shore.  There will be 1.5 meters of space around the truck to allow for pedestrians to safely pass the workzone.  The workzone will have some fencing and a construction person to assist with pedestrian access when needed.

Other Delays

  • Queen Street – Montreal to Sydenham – expect an East bound lane closure until Apr. 1, 2024. Detours will be in place for the duration of the lane closure.
