Following is a list of road construction projects and events provided by the City of Kingston that are expected to have an impact on traffic flow next week:

Road Closures
- George Street – Wellington to Regent/Regent to James – closed until Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. for the Utilities Kingston project for watermain upgrades. Please note that only one section of George Street will be closed at a time.
- Lower Brewers Swing Bridge – closed until further notice. Parks Canada is continuing its efforts to replace the bridge over the winter.
- Ontario Street – Brock to Johnson – closed Aug. 4 at 8 a.m. to Aug. 6 at 1 p.m. for the Poker Run Event. Access to 185 Ontario Street is available via Johnson St at Ontario St.
- Princess Street – at Portsmouth – closed Aug. 1 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Aug. 2 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and Aug. 3 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. to support pavement restoration works by Utilities Kingston.
- Princess Street – Division to Ontario – closed Aug. 5 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Princess St Promenade.
- Queen Mary Road – Bath to Notch Hill – closure extended from Aug 9 to Aug. 25 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for the Utilities Kingston NETS project.
- Curtis Crescent (North Leg) – at Portsmouth – closed Aug. 9 to September from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day for storm sewer restoration work.
- Sydenham Street – Queen to Princess – closed until Sept. 5 for Downtown Kingston activations.
- University Avenue – Union to Earl – closed until Dec. 22 for the removal of debris from demolition and concrete deliveries at the Queen’s John Deutsch University Centre project.
- Wright Crescent – South Intersection of Palace to 16 Palace – closed until Oct. 31, 2023 for construction staging for 11 Wright Cres. Please note that access to Wright Cres. will be through the North intersection of Wright Cres. at Palace Rd.
Waaban Crossing
The intersection of Montreal Street and John Counter Blvd is currently being re-designed to add increased active transportation and transit facilities and improved signal timings to enhance the overall level of service.
Borehole field investigations are required to support the design phase work to determine appropriate rehabilitation methods that can be used for the construction work.
Montreal Street from Briceland St. to Cassidy St.;
John Counter Blvd from Elliott Ave to Ascot Lane
- Proposed boreholes are located in the road’s boulevard space which should limit traffic disruption during the drilling work.
- Boreholes that are in the boulevard but are close to the road curb will require traffic barrels to be placed on the road and will cause traffic to lower their speed through these locations. These locations will be drilled during off-peak hours between 9:00am and 3:00pm.
- With boreholes being in the boulevard space, there may be impacts to sidewalk users during this work. Signage will be placed to inform sidewalk users of the work and drilling crew staff may also escort sidewalk users if needed in the event of close proximity to drilling equipment.
Parking Disruption
The Chown Memorial Parking Structure Restoration project is now underway. The work will take place throughout all levels of the building, and will include efforts such as routine structural maintenance, renewal of waterproofing materials and upgrades to the building mechanical/electrical systems. The work is expected to conclude in late December. Please note: The Chown Garage will also be closed from August 4th at 4:00 p.m. until August 8th at 6:00 a.m.
The work will be completed in phases to allow the building to remain open to public parking for the duration of the project. Phased work areas will occupy a maximum of 40% of the available parking stalls at a time. Up to 180 spaces will be out of commission. There is parking availability at the Hanson Memorial and Robert Bruce Memorial parking garages in the two adjacent blocks to the east.
Centre 70 – Public EV charging stations at Centre 70 will be unavailable until late October 2023 due to the seasonal relocation of the sleeping cabins to this site. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience.
The Robert Bruce Memorial Parking Garage second level will be closed on July 4th for approximately three weeks to conclude the structural maintenance and renewal of waterproofing materials project started last year.
Other Delays
- Bath Road – at Queen Mary – expect delays until Aug. 9 for the installation of new infrastructure crossing Bath Road. Please note that one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times on Bath Road.
- Bayridge Drive – Woodbine to Cataraqui Woods – expect delays until Nov. 30 for Phase 1 of the Bayridge Drive cycling and pedestrian improvements.
- Highway 15 – Main to Hwy 2 – expect delays until Aug. 25 for watermain upgrades on Hwy 15.
- Highway 33 – east of Collins Creek Bridge to west of Coronation Blvd. – expect delays due to construction to improve drainage. Construction barrels and flag-people will direct traffic around the work zone.
- Johnson St – Clergy St to Sydenham St – expect starting Aug. 8 to Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to install new utilities services.
- Princess Street – at Westbrook – Expect delays from July 31 to Aug. 4 due to construction for intersection improvements.
- Princess Street – Collins Bay to Bayridge – expect delays until Oct. 31 for the construction of new sidewalks and traffic signals along Princess Street. Please note that one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times on Princess St.
- Portsmouth Ave – Johnson St to Curtis Cres – expect delays from Aug. 9 to Sept. 9 to install new storm sewer services.
- Taylor Kidd Blvd – Collins Bay to 100 metres West of Collins Creek Bridge – expect a lane closure from May 3 to Nov. 15 for the Collins Creek Bridge Rehabilitation project. Please note, Taylor Kidd will require the reduction from a two lane to a single lane roadway and the lane closures will be controlled with Temporary Traffic Signals for the duration of the project.
Sidewalks/Pathways
- Rideau Trail – Queen Mary to Parkway – closed for crews to replace sanitary main, install shoring and build a new gravel pathway.
