Kingston Road Closures & Delays: February 26 to March 2

Following is a list of road construction projects and events provided by the City of Kingston that are expected to have an impact on traffic flow next week:

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians: review the listing of streets and related messages below for travel information of interest to you.

Reduced load restrictions are in effect in Kingston. Heavy trucks and loads are restricted on City roads, where posted, until April 30. These restrictions help reduce damage to roads in the spring.

Road Closures:

* Jackson Mills Road – McIvor to Burbrook – closed Feb. 21 to Mar. 10 to remove and install new culverts at the bridge near the K&P trail.
* King Street – Place D’Armes to The Tragically Hip Way – closed Mar. 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. for the Cure Cancer Classic event at the Leon’s Centre.
* Lower Brewers Swing Bridge – closed until further notice. Parks Canada is continuing its efforts to replace the bridge over the winter.

* Market Street – Ontario to King – closed Feb. 25 from 7 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. for Public Market Vendors and Pedestrian Traffic during the Historic Hockey Game in Market Square.
* University Avenue – Union to Earl – closed until Apr. 31 at 7 p.m. for the removal of debris from demolition and concrete deliveries at the Queen’s John Deutsch University Centre project.
* Wright Crescent – South Intersection of Palace to 16 Palace – closed until Oct. 31, 2023 for construction staging for 11 Wright Cres. Please note that access to Wright Cres. will be through the North intersection of Wright Cres. at Palace Rd.

School Streets Initiative:

The following streets are closed from 8:40 a.m. to 9:10 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. weekdays until June 29, 2023:

* MacDonnell Street – Earl to Hill
* Sydenham Street – Ordnance to Colborne

The following street will be closed from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays until August 28, 2023:

* Thomas Street – Cowdy to Patrick

Parking Disruption:

The Chown Memorial Parking Structure Restoration project is expected to get underway in the coming weeks. The work will take place throughout all levels of the building, and will include efforts such as routine structural maintenance, renewal of waterproofing materials and upgrades to the building mechanical/electrical systems. The work is expected to begin in early March and conclude in late December.

The work will be completed in phases to allow the building to remain open to public parking for the duration of the project. Phased work areas will occupy a maximum of 25% of the available parking stalls at a time. Up to 115 spaces will be out of commission. There is parking availability at the Hanson Memorial and Robert Bruce Memorial parking garages in the two adjacent blocks to the east.

Other Delays:

* Brock Street – King to Wellington – expect a lane closure from Feb. 21 at 7 a.m. to Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. for a sewer lateral replacement for Utilities Kingston.
* Highway 33 – east of Collins Creek Bridge to west of Coronation Blvd. – expect delays due to construction to improve drainage. Construction barrels and flag-people will direct traffic around the work zone.

Sidewalks/Pathways:

* Brock Street – King to Wellington – expect a sidewalk closure from Feb. 21 to 24 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day for a sewer lateral replacement for Utilities Kingston.
* King Street – Princess to Queen – expect a sidewalk closure Jan. 23 to Feb. 28 for the development at 18 Queen St.
* Portsmouth Waterfront Pathway – to accommodate pathway and shoreline improvements, the City has closed access to the pathway at the foot of Mowat Ave. and Yonge St. and east of Lakewatch Ln.
* Queen Street – King to Ontario – expect a sidewalk closure Jan. 23 to Feb. 28 for the development at 18 Queen St.
