Kingston Road Closures & Delays: June 27 to July 9

Following is a list of road construction projects and events provided by the City of Kingston that are expected to have an impact on traffic flow next week:

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians: review the listing of streets and related messages below for travel information of interest to you.

* Between Traffic Reports, check CityofKingston.ca/RoadClosures for updates (please note that no report will be issued on July 2).
* Significant City or Utilities Kingston-related traffic disruptions will also be sent out on the City’s Twitter feed @CityofKingston.

Closures:

* Albert Street – Princess to York – closed 7 a.m. June 29 to 5 p.m. June 30 as crews erect a tower crane.
* Colborne Street – Division to Chatham – closed until 7 p.m. July 30 for construction staging.
* Garrett Street – near Division – closed until June 30 for construction staging. Local traffic may access Garrett Street from University Avenue.

*Napier to College – closed until Aug. 27 for water and sewer reconstruction by a contractor on behalf of Utilities Kingston.
* Market Street – Ontario to King – closed until Oct. 31 to accommodate Love Kingston Marketplace.
* Napier Street – Brock to Earl – closed until July 2 to allow for water and sewer reconstruction by a contractor on behalf of Utilities Kingston.

* Ontario Street – Clarence to Johnson – closed to accommodate Love Kingston Marketplace activities:

  • 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 1
  • 4 to 11:59 p.m. July 2
  • 4 to 11:59 p.m. July 3
  • 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 4

* Portsmouth Avenue – Hampstead Heath to Princess and Princess to Howard Cres. – closed to north and southbound traffic. Detour routes will be in place. This closure is to accommodate sewer installation and improvements.

Delays:

* Bayridge West area – Frost, Wembley, Carnaby and Fleet –​​​​​​​ expect daytime lane closures through June 30 while crews rehabilitate the roadway and curbs.
* Calvin Park, Grenville Park, Hillendale, Polson Park and Strathcona Park – Expect local traffic disruptions and minor detours into the summer as a contractor prepares to line sewer mains on behalf of Utilities Kingston. Please follow signage and yield to oncoming traffic as required.
* Daly Street – Weller to MacCauley – expect delays due to lane closure 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 5 to Aug. 2 for a gas main replacement.
* Gardiners Road – Princess to Fortune (South) – expect delays due to lane closures 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
* Grenadier Drive – at Windfield Crescent – expect delays to allow construction of the Kingston East Community Centre site. Flaggers will direct traffic.

* Highway 15:

  • At Gore Road – work is scheduled 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Expect minor delays due to lane reductions to accommodate road and active transportation infrastructure improvements. Lane reductions will take place outside of rush hour, if possible. Details: Third Crossing website.
  • Gore Road to Highway 2 – expect delays starting July 5 and until November to allow installation of a trunk water main by a contractor on behalf of Utilities Kingston.
  • Washburn Road to Sunbury Road – expect single-lane reductions until November to accommodate the Rideau Canal Backwater Culvert project.

* Highway 33 – east of Collins Creek Bridge to west of Coronation Boulevard – expect delays due to construction to improve drainage. Construction barrels and flag-people will direct traffic around the work zone. Ontario highway updates are offered by the Ministry of Transportation.
* Jackson Mills Road – near the K&P Trail – reduced to one lane for roadside safety improvements but remains open in both directions.

* John Counter Boulevard – Princess to Indian – expect delays until the summer of 2021 while crews complete work associated with the road-widening project, turtle-fencing and water mains.
* Johnson Street – College to Napier – expect lane restrictions until Aug. 27 to allow a contractor to prepare for water and sewer line reconstructions on behalf of Utilities Kingston.

* King Street West – Sand Bay Lane to Country Club Drive – expect significant delays due to east- and westbound lane restrictions starting July 5 and continuing through 20211. A contractor is installing water and wastewater infrastructure on behalf of Utilities Kingston.
* La Salle Causeway – Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) wishes to advise of an ongoing lane closure for overnight repair work 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly through July 4. One lane remains open for alternating traffic. Watch for direction from flagpeople. Motorists should expect short delays. * Parkway – Princess to dead end – expect lane closures from July 12 to August 20 to accommodate construction of the North End Trunk Sewer by a contractor on behalf of Utilities Kingston.
* Portsmouth Avenue – Old Quarry Road to Princess – expect delays until the end of June as a contractor working on behalf of Utilities Kingston installs a new sanitary sewer and upgrades water mains.
* Princess Street – At Portsmouth – Princess will be down to a single lane at Portsmouth in both directions. All turns will be restricted and linear traffic flow through the intersection will be maintained. This lane reduction will accommodate sewer installation and improvements.

* Third Crossing bridge construction impacts: Highway 15 at Gore – expect delays as pieces of the main span of the bridge arrive. Trucks will turn off Highway 401 onto Highway 15 and then onto Gore to reach the bridge site. Visit the project’s website to learn more.

* Weller Avenue – Montreal to Daly – expect delays due to lane closure 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 5 to Aug. 2 to allow a contractor to replace a gas main on behalf of Utilities Kingston.

* Grenadier Drive – at Windfield Crescent – expect construction around the Kingston East Community Centre site. The sidewalk on the south side of Grenadier Drive may be restricted weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. A flagger will be on-site to direct traffic and assist pedestrians.
* – Bayridge to Days (north side) – starting July 5 expect limited access to the sidewalk through October as crews construct a new multi-use pathway.
* 100 Foot Park pathway – The lower pathway (nearest the waterfront) is now closed as the City readies to repair the lower pedestrian bridge. Signage redirects pedestrians.

* King Street – At the former Kingston Penitentiary – expect intermittent sidewalk closures until 9 p.m. June 11 to accommodate filming. You may be delayed or redirected.
* Parkway – northerly to Portsmouth and north end to William Hackett Park – closed until Aug. 31 to accommodate construction of the North End Trunk Sewer by a contractor on behalf of Utilities Kingston.

* – to accommodate pathway and shoreline improvements, the City will erect construction fencing to close access to the pathway and waterfront at the foot of Mowat Avenue and Yonge Street and east of Lakewatch Lane at the beginning of July. The bridge will be removed at the same time. Construction will continue until fall 2021.
