RELEASE — The inaugural YGK Music playlists are now available for listening across various platforms, including the City of Kingston website, on the City’s call waiting system, and on the Visit Kingston Music website.

The two playlists, divided by contemporary and traditional genres, feature a total of 45 tracks created by local musicians. Artist bios can be found through the SoundCloud track link. The playlists will be live for a period of 12 months.

YGK Music is a local music pilot project, launched in March 2019 by the City of Kingston in partnership with Kingston Accommodation Partners (KAP). The project accepted submissions from local musicians, groups and organizations over a five-week period, resulting in 92 responses.

“We’re thrilled to be launching our first YGK Music playlists that promote Kingston musicians,” says Danika Lochhead, manager, arts and sector development. “The response during the submission period showed just how strong Kingston’s local music community is and these playlists are a great way of celebrating that.”

All submissions to YGK Music were reviewed by a Local Music Working Group, made up of musicians and industry professionals from Kingston. Submissions were assessed based on evaluation criteria of artistic merit, artistic practice, diversity and content.

The playlists are now streaming on CityofKingston.ca/YGKMusic.
