RELEASE — We’re starting our 2nd annual online charity auction on August 24th. The Futures Auction will be raising money for our bursary program that sends the youth we serve to college and
university.

It’s a worthy cause. Every year, we help the kids in our care achieve their dream of getting a post-secondary education. In June, we hit a major milestone when we awarded a record $70,000 in bursaries to 14 youth – a new 125-year record.

Our most recent survey of bursary recipients tells the story of the hopes and fears the youth we serve have when it comes to a post-secondary education. More than 87 percent said that education was the “key to their future”. But 62 percent that paying for college and university would be a challenge even with the government assistance they receive. That same amount said they “were worried about their future”and almost a third said that in high school they never dreamed they would be able to actually attend college or university.

The research is clear. Kids in the care of a Children’s Aid Society like ours have more challenges when it comes to education than their peers. We believe a good education is exactly what they need to get started as they become adults. It will help them grow, make connections and start a career. Our community has a stake in making these kids as successful as they can be. A post-secondary education is the place to start.

And that’s why we’re holding our 2nd annual online charity auction August 24th. The Futures Auction will have more than 60 items up for auction from indigenous art and travel to golf and
photography. There’s also one-of-a-kind experiences like local musician Scott Owen giving you a private concert or Kingston author Merilyn Simonds giving you a tour of Portsmouth
Village.

Can’t find something that meets your fancy? Than make a donation to the Futures Fund, our main bursary program.

Help us make the Futures Auction another success, and we’ll use the money to send deserving kids to college and university.
