Local farmers and supporters are invited to register to attend the 2019 Ecological Farmers of Ontario Conference to be held in Belleville, ON.
RELEASE — Registration is now open for the 6th annual Ecological Farmers of Ontario Conference, to be held December 2nd to 5th at the Ramada by Wyndham Hotel in Belleville, ON. Last year’s conference attracted over 400 farmers and supporters from across the province. Full details can be found on the conference website: conference.efao.ca
This year’s theme – Climate of Curiosity – speaks to the nature of farmers as curious and resilient innovators in the face of the very real impacts of climate change on agriculture in Ontario. Participants will not only leave the conference with new ideas and inspiration they can apply on their farms, but with new connections and renewed hope.
Over 40 intermediate and advanced level workshops – including 5 full-day intensive sessions – will cover diverse topics, from foraging behaviour of cattle to farm-scale permaculture.
Conference speaker highlights include author and award-winning foraging ecology specialist Dr. Fred Provenza; regenerative farm design consultant Javan Bernakevitch; Andrew Mefferd, editor of Growing for Market and author of The Organic No-Till Farming Revolution and Finian Makepeace, co-founder of Kiss the Ground and thought leader in the field of regenerative agriculture and soil health.
The conference will also mark the 40th anniversary of the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario with a celebration on Tuesday December 3rd. Ample opportunities for socializing and networking will include a two-day tradeshow, silent auction, community meetings, and roundtable sessions.
The 2019 Ecological Farmers of Ontario Conference is presented in partnership with the National Farmers Union Ontario, the Organic Council of Ontario, the Ontario Soil Network, the Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security, the Canadian Organic Growers and Local Food and Farm Co-ops Network.
The Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario (EFAO) supports farmers to build resilient ecological farms and grow a strong knowledge-sharing community.
Established in 1979 by farmers for farmers, EFAO is a membership organization that focuses on farmer-led education, research and community building. EFAO brings farmers together so they can learn from each other and improve the health of their soils, crops, livestock and the environment, while running profitable farm businesses.
