Kingston Road Closures & Delays for August 15 to 21 (Updated)

Please see below for a list of road construction projects and events expected to have an impact on traffic flow next week.

(Information updated by the City to reflect the Tragically Hip event road closures)

RECONSTRUCTION OF SIDE STREETS OFF PRINCESS

–       Montreal Street will be closed from Princess to Queen until mid-August.
–       Sydenham Street will be closed from Princess to Queen until the end of September.
–       Queen Street at Montreal will be down to one lane each way from Aug. 15 to 19 and on Aug. 22 and 23 to allow for installation of electrical ducts.

WELLINGTON AND PRINCESS CONSTRUCTION

The southbound lane of Wellington Street is closed until the end of September to accommodate construction of the new Scotiabank building at Wellington and Princess. Motorists can access the Angrove Parking Lot off Wellington.

Businesses on Wellington Street remain open during construction.

OTHER CONSTRUCTION ROAD CLOSURES

The fixed bridge and swing bridge on Kingston Mills Road will be closed from early September until mid-May 2017 to allow Parks Canada to replace the fixed bridge and rehabilitate the swing bridge. Want community updates on this project? Email RideauCanal.info@pc.gc.ca.

The heart of Kingston will be affected by these Poker Run and Tragically Hip event closures this weekend:

– King Street from Place D’Armes to Barrack – from 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug.18 to Sunday, Aug. 21.
– Market Street – from 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19 to Sunday, Aug. 21.
– The Tragically Hip Way – from 12 p.m. Friday, Aug.19 to 2 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21
– Ontario Street from Brock to Johnson – from 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19 to 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20
– Ontario Street from Queen to Brock – 6 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 to 2 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21 – local traffic only.
– Ontario Street from Brock to Clarence – 6 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 to 2 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21
– Brock Street from Ontario to King – 6 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 to 2 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21
– Clarence Street from Bagot to King – 6 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 to 2 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21
– King Street from Clarence to Queen – 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 to 2 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21
– Brock Street from King to Wellington – 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 to 2 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21
– Princess Street from Wellington to Ontario – 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 to 2 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21

Roads will re-open beginning at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21 and as safety permits.

CONSTRUCTION DELAYS
Motorists should expect delays due to construction:
–       On Princess Street between Barrie and Bagot streets while crews complete surface work until the end of August. See CityofKingston.ca/Princess for details.
–       On Highway 15 between Innovation and Gore until late August as Taggart Construction works to improve the Rose Abbey intersection to service the new Riverview subdivision.
–       On John Counter Boulevard between Princess Street and Portsmouth Avenue until the end of August. Trucks are delivering large amounts of rock to the embankments for the future bridge over the tracks. See CityofKingston.ca/JCB for an update on this project.
–       On Queen at Montreal beginning Monday, Aug. 15.  Queen Street is being reduced to one lane in each direction while crews install new electrical infrastructure.

UTILITIES KINGSTON DELAYS
–       Expect delays on the following streets over the next few months as Utilities Kingston crews reline aging water pipes (for more information on this project go to UtilitiesKingston.com/Projects/Detail/WatermainReliningProgram.
o       Old Hillview Road from Hillview Road south to the end
o       Roosevelt Drive from Vista to Knightbridge
o       Bernice Drive from Roosevelt to Carrie (south intersection)
o       Carrie Crescent from Bernice (north intersection) to Renda
o       Hathaway Terrace from Roosevelt south to the cul-de-sac
o       Sunny Acres Road from Front to Point
o       Point Crescent from Sunny Acres to Keyes

–       Expect minor delays and local lane reductions along King Street and Front Road from the INVISTA Plant to Sir John A. Macdonald and on Union and Kennedy streets from King to Gardiner while crews complete investigations and studies for a project to redirect wastewater. –       Expect continued delays northbound on Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard at Princess Street next week. Gas repairs are complete, but asphalt will require extra time to cure due to extreme heat.

ROAD RECONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
Work to reconstruct the following roadways is underway:
–       Montreal Street between Queen and Brock
–       Sydenham Street between Queen and Princess
–       Clergy Street between Queen and Princess
–       Yonge Street from Forsythe to Johnson
–       K&P Trail (on-road portion)
