YMCA reported Friday that the pool in its west end facility is now closed due to an unexpected mechanical failure and will not re-open before the facility closes permanently on August 16.
According to a release, the pool’s heating system broke down on Thursday, June 20 and the water temperature dropped to an uncomfortably cool level. The pool will remain closed due to the cost and time that would be required to fix it.
“Anyone taking swimming lessons at Y West may move over to the Wright Crescent location,” said Ben Proulx, supervisor, aquatics. “My team and I will be reaching out to each family to make these arrangements or they may call us.”
AquaFit classes for Y West members are also being rescheduled to take place at Wright Crescent and the new schedule is now available online (pdf) and at the front desk.
“On behalf of the YMCA, I apologize for this inconvenience and thank our members for their patience. Please know that we are doing everything possible to serve our members at Wright Crescent. I have every confidence in Ben and his team to deliver great service,” said Rob Adams, CEO, YMCA of Eastern Ontario.
YMCA West members seeking information about swimming lessons can contact the aquatics department at 613-546-2647 x 502.
