$1.5 Million in Upgrades for Kingston Soccer Fields

The city has announced that work to improve soccer fields in Kingston has already started, and will continue throughout the fall and into the 2011 soccer season.

In total, $1.5 million worth of upgrades will be made to current soccer fields to provide an improved playing surface.

Additionally, the following outdoor-sports projects are scheduled to be finished and ready for games in 2012:

–        two new international-sized fields and a future field house are planned for John Machin Park;
–        a new track and field complex with artificial turf at the INVISTA Centre; and
–        the conversion of a natural field to artificial turf at Caton’s field.

This soccer field maintenance will improve grading, drainage and soil conditioning to ensure consistent serviceability under a variety of use and weather conditions.

The work indicated below is also available for viewing at www.cityofkingston.ca/sportsfield .

Programming and schedules will be affected by these improvements to the following sites on these dates:

Kating’s Field – Montreal St.
Caton’s 1:
–        Conversion to artificial turf  – throughout entire 2011 season
–        Available for play in 2012.

Caton’s 2:
–        Improve drainage, top dress and over-seed – 2010 fall
–        Available for play in 2011.

INVISTA Centre Track and Field:
–        New track and artificial field construction – throughout entire 2011 season
–        Available for play in 2012.

Jim Beattie – Henderson Blvd.:
–        Expanded parking area – 2010 fall

East Field:
–        Grading and new sod – 2010 fall
–        Available for play July 2011

John Machin Park- Innovation Drive, Hwy # 15
¾ Fields 1 – 4:
–        Improve drainage – 2010 fall
–        Available for play in 2011

International Fields 1 & 2:
–        New field construction – 2010 and 2011
–        Available for play in 2012

Highgate Park – Highgate Park Drive
–        Grading and new sod – 2010 fall
–        Available for play July 2011

Markers Acres – Conacher Drive
–        Improve drainage, top dress and over-seed – 2010 fall
–        Available for play in 2011

McCullough Park – McCullough Park Drive
–        Grading and new sod – 2011 fall
–        Available for play July 2012

Shannon Park – Wilson Street.
–        Aerate, top dress, fertilize and over-seed – 2010 fall
–        Available for play in 2011

Woodbine Park – Woodbine Rd.
Woodbine 1:
–        Grading and new sod – 2010 fall
–        Available for play July 2011
Woodbine 2-5:
–        Improve drainage, top dress and over-seed – 2010 fall
–        Available for play in 2011
