The City of Kingston has relaunched its Neighbourhood Tree Planting Program, offering discounted trees to property owners within municipal boundaries. The initiative is intended to support the expansion of the city’s tree canopy.
From June 30 to August 1, eleven tree species will be available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis. Eligible property owners may purchase up to three trees per property at a cost of $20 per tree, including HST. All purchased trees must be planted within Kingston’s municipal limits.
“Purchasing and planting a tree has many benefits for individual property owners and Kingston as a whole,” said Troy Stubinski, Public Works Operations Manager. “Trees provide shade, store greenhouse gases, give off oxygen, help remove pollutants from groundwater and help prevent soil erosion. They do many important jobs, and all while beautifying our community and promoting wellbeing for all. Together we can grow Kingston’s tree canopy and all enjoy a greener future.”
Trees can be ordered online, by phone, or in person at designated City locations. Full program details.
Additional information about Kingston’s forestry efforts can be found in the City’s podcast episode on the topic, part of the Tell Me More series.
