Police report a 47 year old Kingston man is in custody after being charged with Mischief under $5,000 for damaging election signs.
The charge was laid after a uniform patrol officer observed the man destroy an election sign – kicking and throwing it – at Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard & Norman Rogers Drive, at around 4:45 am on October 2nd. The officer approached and identified the male as a nearby resident.
According to the report, the man was blaming a politician for “having an agenda against him”, to which the officer pointed out that the sign he had damaged belonged to a different federal party.
The individual stated that he didn’t care about the error and indicated he had damaged other signs as well.
Confirming other election signs along Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard were also knocked down, the officer asked the man to replace and put them all back up.
The man refused – adding that he intended to continue damaging signs – at which point he was arrested and charged with Mischief under $5,000.
The accused was transported to police headquarters and held for a later bail hearing, after reportedly stating he wouldn’t show up to court if he was released on a Promise to Appear.
