Residents Invited to Shape City’s Future Growth and Transportation

Residents of Kingston are invited to contribute to the development of the city’s new Official Plan and Integrated Mobility Plan by participating in a public survey available on Get Involved Kingston until March 7. The input gathered will help shape the city’s future growth and transportation policies over the next 25 years.

The Official Plan will establish guidelines on land use, building locations, and the protection of resources and significant sites within Kingston. Laura Flaherty, Project Manager with Planning Services, emphasized its importance, stating, “The new Official Plan will outline how land will be used, where buildings will be built, and how resources and special places will be protected in Kingston for the next 25 years. It sets the framework guiding all growth and development decisions, which will have a lasting impact for all current residents and future generations and is pivotal in ensuring sustainable growth that reflects the community’s needs and aspirations.”

For the first time, the Official Plan is being developed in conjunction with the city’s Integrated Mobility Plan, which will focus on future transportation options and accessibility. According to Matt Kussin, Manager of Transportation Policy and Programs, “At the core of the Integrated Mobility Plan is a commitment to creating a future transportation system that provides more options for people of all ages and abilities. This survey is a critical opportunity for residents to help shape that vision and guide how we get there.”

The survey is part of a broader public engagement initiative that began in 2024. Previous efforts have included the formation of a Community Advisory Group and various pop-up events throughout the city. The survey represents one phase of the consultation process, with additional opportunities for public input anticipated as the projects advance.
