The Seniors Association Kingston Region has unveiled its upcoming Later Life Learning series, focusing on cutting-edge mental health treatments. The series, titled “Novel Treatments for Mental Health,” will run on Fridays from January 12 to February 9, from 10:00 am to 12 noon at 56 Francis St, Kingston, ON.
This educational initiative will highlight recent advancements in mental health therapies, including new medications and interventions. The topics will cover controversial and pioneering methods like Ketamine for Major Depression, Psychedelic Cannabis for Harm Reduction, and the use of Psychedelics as a Social Wellness Tool.
Clare Williams, Programs Director at the Seniors Association Kingston Region, explained the series’ purpose: “Our Later Life Learning Series is designed to demystify topics such as this. We believe in educating the public to foster a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world. Kingston is one of the leading cities in Canada for both research into and use of novel treatments for mental health, and we felt it was important to share.”
The series will feature a roster of esteemed speakers, including Gustavo Vasquez, Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Centre for Neuroscience Studies at Queen’s University; Rich Tyo, Registered Psychotherapist and Co-Creator of Neuma Centre for Social Wellness; Sharday Mosurinjohn, Associate Professor, School of Religion, Queen’s University; Cory Firth, Co-Creator and CEO, Neuma Centre for Social Wellness; and Ron Shore, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Queen’s University.
Additionally, attendees will hear from an individual whose experience with Psilocybin following the death of his daughter dramatically changed his life. Each session will delve into a different aspect of these novel mental health treatments.
