Rideaucrest Home to Hold Fall Volunteer Recruitment Fair

Rideaucrest Home, Kingston’s long-term care facility, is offering a variety of opportunities at their fall volunteer fair from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 26 in the Home’s family room at 175 Rideau St.

Everyone who is 13 years or older is invited to attend, with students being reminded that volunteering at Rideaucrest can be used to achieve the mandatory 40 hours of volunteer service required to attain a secondary school diploma.

Rideaucrest’s Auxiliary Volunteer program needs you! Our volunteers are so dedicated – and it’s because they are able to create and enjoy meaningful experiences and enrich the lives of our residents,” saìd resident programs and services supervisor, Shiela Thompson.

Staff will be on hand to speak to the benefits of volunteering and what each opportunity involves.

Some of the roles include:

• Internet Café tutor
• Coffee shop attendant
• Wii Games leader
• Music director or choir leader
• iPod/MP3 music project helper
• Musician/performer
• Games leader (cards, Scrabble, etc.)
• Recreation program leader
• Friendly visitor
• Porter
• Mail and newspaper delivery person
• Meal time assistant
• Photographer
• Scrapbooking helper
• Rummage box co-ordinator
• Reading group leader
• Travelogue leader
• Social companion
• Developer of a portable reading cart
• Reading cart librarian
