Kingston resident Laurie Scott is celebrating a life-changing moment after winning the top prize of $22 million in the June 9, 2023, LOTTO MAX draw.

As a retired academic librarian, Laurie revealed that she has been a regular lottery player for more than three decades. To ensure she never missed a draw, she signed up for a LOTTO MAX subscription with OLG. During her vacation, the winning ticket was automatically purchased through a QUICK PICK selection.

While away, Laurie received an email from OLG, but since she was outside Ontario at the time, she couldn’t log into her OLG account to verify the win. After contacting OLG for more information, she had to put the news aside and enjoy the rest of her trip, unsure if it was indeed real.

Upon returning home, Laurie finally logged into her account to check the outcome. The shock and excitement overwhelmed her as she tried to comprehend the massive amount she had won. She admitted that she was glad she didn’t know the exact sum during her vacation, as it would have consumed her thoughts.

Sharing the good news with her family over a video call, Laurie’s loved ones were thrilled for her and offered their heartfelt congratulations. With the newfound fortune, Laurie has plans to carry out some home renovations and fulfill her dream of traveling. Additionally, she expressed her intention to support charities close to her heart with her winnings.

Describing the moment she received the cheque as “astonishing and overwhelming,” Laurie acknowledged that she had always hoped to win but never imagined she would hit such a substantial jackpot. The security provided by the win brings her immense happiness, and she is grateful for this incredible stroke of luck.

The winning ticket was purchased online at OLG.ca.

LOTTO MAX players in Ontario have experienced a combined total of more than $7.8 billion in winnings since 2009, with 98 jackpot wins and 850 MAXMILLIONS prizes awarded across the province. Players can participate for $5 per play, and draws take place on Tuesdays and Fridays.
