Kingston Police has announced the return of the Citizens Police Academy Program, which aims to provide community members with insight into the operations of the local police service. The program offers participants exposure to various aspects of policing through demonstrations, presentations, and voluntary interactions with officers and community partners.
The program is set to run every Thursday evening for seven weeks, beginning on February 20, 2025, and concluding on April 3, 2025. Sessions will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Applicants are encouraged to carefully review their schedules to ensure they can attend all sessions.
The program will introduce participants to a range of topics, which may include the Kingston Police organizational structure, use of force training, traffic services, and the day-to-day responsibilities of patrol officers. Additional areas covered may involve the communications and 911 unit, criminal investigations, forensic identification, emergency response, court services, the Crown Attorney’s office, intelligence, and canine operations.
Participation in the program is limited to individuals 18 years of age or older, who are Canadian citizens and current residents of Kingston. A criminal record check will be required, though it will be conducted at no cost to the applicant. The course is limited to 16 participants, and selection will be conducted through a lottery system. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply early due to limited space. The deadline for applications is February 7, 2025.
