Queen’s will hold a memorial next week for Cameron Bruce, the first-year student who died September 13.
After consulting with Cameron’s family and friends at Queen’s, University Chaplain Brian Yealland will officiate at a service in Wallace Hall in the JDUC on Tuesday October 5 at 7pm.
“We are working with the students who Cameron came to know in his brief time here to provide a tribute to his life, and a chance for his friends to share in both happy and sad memories,” says Mr. Yealland. “Cameron’s family will be here as well so that will offer the chance for students who were not able to be at Cameron’s funeral to pay their respects to his family.”
Cameron’s family held a funeral on Saturday September 25 in his hometown of Westport, Connecticut. A celebration of Cameron’s life will be held there during the US Thanksgiving weekend in November.
At the funeral, Cameron’s father Iain (Comm’81) told an overflow crowd that his son said his first week at Queen’s was the best week of his life.
Donations in Cameron’s memory can be made to the Cameron Bruce Scholarship for Trumpet at New England Music Camp, 8 Goldenrod Lane, Sidney, ME 04330, or for a grant that will be established in his memory at his high school — Staples Tuition Grants, PO Box 5159, Westport, CT 06881-5159.
