The City of Kingston’s Public Works department is gearing up to host Public Works Day on Saturday, May 27 at the Public Works headquarters (701 Division Street). This family-friendly open house will provide a unique opportunity for residents to explore the inner workings of various City departments, including Solid Waste, Utilities Kingston, Engineering, and Kingston Transit.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors will be treated to an array of engaging activities and displays. One of the highlights will be the impressive lineup of vehicles and machinery, proudly exhibited by Public Works and other participating departments. Attendees will have the chance to get up close and personal with these vehicles, as well as enjoy thrilling vehicle rides. Demonstrations showcasing the diverse range of services provided by Public Works will also be held throughout the day.
“We are looking forward to welcoming the community on May 27 and showcasing the many roles and responsibilities of Public Works in Kingston,” said Karen Santucci, Director of Public Works and Solid Waste. “It will be a jam-packed day of activities with something for everyone. All are welcome to come and learn more about the work we do!”
Public Works Week, celebrated across Canada and the United States, is a time to recognize the crucial role public works play in society. This year, the observance takes place from May 21 to May 27. City of Kingston’s Public Works oversees a wide range of essential services and programs, including snow removal, road maintenance, tree and shrub planting, and community cleanups.
Parking will be available at the Railway Street entrance to the Public Works property.
