Prince Edward Pickleball to Host 2nd Annual Fundraising Tournament

Prince Edward Pickleball (PEP) has announced its 2nd Annual Fundraising Pickleball Tournament, set for August 17-18, 2024, at the Picton Community Centre, located at 375 Main Street, Picton, Ontario.

The tournament aims to raise funds for the construction of six dedicated pickleball courts in Picton. Last year’s inaugural event attracted approximately 100 players and raised $10,000. Building on that success, PEP expects even greater participation and support this year.

“We’re excited to host our 2nd Annual Fundraising Pickleball Tournament and to continue our mission of promoting the growth of pickleball in Prince Edward County,” said Stephanie Roth, Tournament Co-Chair and PEP Chairperson. “With the support of our community and players, we aim to make significant strides towards the construction of dedicated courts that will benefit pickleball enthusiasts and local businesses for years to come.”

The event will feature Men’s and Women’s matches on August 17, followed by Mixed Doubles on August 18. Registration is now open online at pickleballbrackets.com, with a participation fee of $60 for the initial category and $20 for each additional category. Participants are guaranteed a minimum of three games.

“We’re delighted to announce that we had excellent feedback from the first tournament,” said Peter Gamble, Tournament Co-Chair. “We’re confident that this endorsement will attract even more players from across Ontario and Quebec this year.”

In addition to competitive play, the tournament emphasizes partnership and community engagement. The event is entirely volunteer-run, with Lauran Tobias serving as Logistics Captain and Bev Humphrey as Volunteer Captain.

“We’re grateful for the support of our dedicated volunteers and sponsors who make this event possible,” said Tanya Logan, Sponsorship Captain for the tournament. “Their contributions allow us to maximize our fundraising efforts and bring our community together for a weekend of pickleball excitement.”

ONIX Canada has signed on for its second year as a Tournament Sponsor, with Onix Fuse designated as the Official Ball for the event. Picton Home Hardware is also returning as a Tournament Sponsor. PEP is actively seeking additional sponsors and volunteers. Interested parties can contact princeedwardpickleball@gmail.com.
